Outside of Ancestry.com, I've made a recent connection. When I found out that my Great Aunt Lucienne (my Great Grandmother's sister) had passed away, I wrote on the Legacy Guestbook wall of her online obituary. My cousin, Stephanie (Lucienne's granddaughter), sent me an email and we connected via Facebook.
She had a few pictures of my Great-Great Grandparents and my Great-Grandmother's brother, Armand, when he was in the Navy.
First, here's William Henry Goyette & Marie Alysse (Bouley) Goyette (my Great-Great Grandparents on my maternal grandmother's maternal side.
The story goes that William's brother married Marie's sister and that girls' mother (my Great-Great-Great grandmother) made both dresses by hand.
Next is another picture of my Great-Great grandparents on their 50th Wedding anniversary.
Last is the picture of Armand Goyette, my Great Grandmother's brother acting quite silly in his crackerjack Navy uniform.

From what I understand from my research, both the Goyette's and the Boulet's were from Quebec, and emigrated to the states (Troy NY area) within a couple years of each other. Not sure exactly how they all met though.
That picture of Armand was taken in Noroton Heights CT. William worked as a chauffeur for a wealthy family there, and they grew up on the estate. He is standing on a star that was staked into the ground. The owner put those stars there after automobiles became more popular than cars because he was sick of people driving on his lawn lol. Armand served in both the Navy and the Army, one right after the other. When I get a chance, I have his obit, I will scan it for you:)
Glad to see you are going to use your blog for this, can't wait to read more.
